Tips - Getting more miles from those Tyres Every
Two weeks carry out a few simple tyre checks and you will be rewarded with
improved road handling, comfort, fuel consumption, increased tyre life and
most importantly driver and passenger safety.
Check your Pressures
You'll find them inside your drivers manual, remember if your car is
fully loaded a higher pressure is usually needed. Always check the
pressure when the tyre is cold, warm tyres increase pressure
Check for Damage
Give your tyres a close inspection for cuts, cracks or bulges which can
lead to slow punctures or cause the tyres reinforcing to rust, only fit
tubes in tubeless tyres to get you home.
Check
your tread
Less tread means less grip, the minimum legal
depth is 1.6mm across the central 3/4 of the tyre width and around the
entire circumference of the tyre, however it is wise to replace your tyres
before this advanced stage of wear.
Weather
reduces performance
You are twice as likely to have an accident in wet weather as in
dry. The stopping distance of a tyre with 1.6mm of tread is double
that of a new tyre. Wet weather and worn tyres are a dangerous
combination, with ice and snow it is even more hazardous.
Tyres
are Load carriers
Don't overload your car. Overloading has the same effect on tyres as
underinflation, causing premature tread wear and in extreme cases, a
sudden blow out.
